Health Update of Krishna Kishore Prabhu

Hare Krishna!

First of all I would like to thank every one, who has helped with donations towards the care of Krishna Kishore das. It has been very moving to see how we have such a wonderful caring Vaisnava Community coming together and helping this senior Srila Prabhupada disciple from Argentina.

Prabhu has been shifted to a small apartment in the Mayapur housing area. His wife, Lila Govardhan, along with her two children, has also moved to Mayapur from Brazil to fully care for her husband.

As Krishna Kishor's health is declining by the day, he has become very frail and weak. The costs for his care and medication have also increased. As Lila Govardhan is the main caretaker, we are finding a full time babysitter for her 10-month-old son, Hari Deva.

Krishna Kishore Prabhu is fully bed ridden and also become partially paralyzed. Besides the liver cancer, which has metastasized to his spine, his caregivers are now dealing with a new problem, which are “bedsores”.

Bedsores are a localized area of tissue injury that develops when soft tissue is compressed between a bony prominence and an external surface for a prolonged period of time.  Bed sores result when prolonged pressure prevents sufficient blood flow to supply the tissues with nutrients.  The resulting bed sore represents the death of the involved soft tissues.

Due to the metastatic cancer in his spine, there are only limited positions Prabhu can be in on the bed. So, we have provided a special mattress to minimize the occurrence of these sores. Even though his caregivers are changing his position often, still, one of the sores has developed into an apparently stage IV and is very difficult to treat.

A complex system of nerve pathways, the spinal cord controls certain reflexes and instantaneously relays information between the brain and the body. Cancer metastasizing to the spinal cord destroys these vital pathways from within. Cancer in the dura area may cause swelling of tissues, retention of fluid, blood vessel injury and hemorrhage, damage to nerve
fibers, and spinal cord distortion.

Cancers metastasizing to the spinal column damage the bones and other structures initially, possibly leading to the collapse of vertebrae segments. Neurologic problems occur as the tumor or bone debris press on the spinal cord or nerve roots feeding the nerves going out to the body.

Krishna Kishore's metastatic spine (bone) tumor is in the thoracic (chest-level) area. A small hole has developed on the surface of the skin, in the area of the Tumor and is hemorrhaging.

If any one would like to contribute towards Krishna Kishore's care, please donate by following the Paypal link provided.

We are also in need of surgical cloves, sterile dressings, adult diapers and bed sheets.

Your servant,
Hrimati dasi

Update of Krishna Kishore's health.

August 2nd, 2012

Hare Krishna!

Krishna Kishore Prabhu is now settled in Sri Mayapur Dham, the setting of his choice in an atmosphere of love and care.

The cancer is in his liver and  back, and has attacked his spine and spinal cord, which is causing the severe pain he is having. He can not stand any more and only sits up with help and that only under severe pain. He has also lost control of his bodily functions.

Krishna Kishore Prabhu is now under Palliative care by a team of dedicated devotees and friends who are trying to enhance the quality of his life.

Palliative care is an approach that improves the quality of life of Krishna Kishore Prabhu and the problem he is facing associated with this life-threatening illness, through relief of suffering by treatment of pain and other problems.

Devotes are offering their services in different ways, like cooking, cleaning, reading and giving him spiritual association.

We have set up a small 24 hour Theater with a laptop computer, where Krishna Kishore Prabhu can watch Lectures and videos of his Spiritual Master Srila Prabhupada.

Prabhu is taking Ayurvedic Medicines for the Cancer and allopathic pain medications under Doctor Supervision.

We are again appealing to the assembled Vaishnavas to kindly help this senior Prabhupada disciple by giving a donation from the bottom of your heart, to cover the costs of the medicines, supplies, prasadam and nursing care.

Hoping this finds you in the best of health,

Your servant,
Hrimati dasi

Update

Hare Krishna!

It is with heavy heart that I need to convey the latest news on Krishna Kishore Prabhu's condition.

Krishna Kishore Prabhu has Hepatocellular carcinoma or 'stage 4 Liver cancer', which has developed due to the hepatitis C virus. The malignant cancer has spread  to other parts of the body including the spine. Once the cancer has made metastasis to other parts of the body, no treatment or surgical interventions will be of any help. Prabhu is suffering from excruciating back pain, which is increasing daily.

During the fourth stage, liver cancer is beyond control. As the disease cannot be cured at this stage, palliative therapy is the only option left. Doctors try to improve the quality of the patient's life by controlling pain and other problems caused by the disease.

At the moment Krishna Kishore Prabhu is still in the Bhaktivedanta Hospital. He will be coming back to Kolkata to visit a pain management clinic within the next couple of days. The family is trying to decide where he will pass his remaining time in this body. The options are either Mayapur Dham or Vrindavan Dham.

Inspite of being in extreme pain, Krishna Kishore Prabhu is chanting very vigorously the Maha Mantra. He has firm faith in Srila Prabhupada and Sri Krishna and, with no doubt, will achieve the ultimate goal of life and return to his beloved Lord after leaving this body.

We are appealing again to all the assembled Vaisnavas to please help this wonderful devotee, who has dedicated his entire life in the service of his beloved Guru Maharaj Srila A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada. He needs help in covering hospice care costs, medicines and also other costs like Ambulance, room accommodations etc.

I would like to thank all the devotees who so generously donated to help Krishna Kishora Prabhu.

Your humble servant,
Hrimati dasi

Hare Krishna!

We are appealing to all the assembled Vaishnavas to give financial help to one of Srila Prabhupada's few Argentinean disciples, Krishna Kishora Das. He has Cancer.

Krishna Kishora Das joint the Hare Krishna movement 1973 in Argentina. He received his first initiation from His divine grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada 1974 in Buenos Aires. The next year 1975, Krishna Kishora Das received his braminical initiation in Mexico personally by Srila Prabhupada during his visit there.

During his devotional life Krishna Kishora Das opened many temples and brought many Souls to Srila Prabhupada. Prabhu's main Service was Sankirtan, book distribution and preaching mostly in Argentina and later in Brazil.

One year ago Krishna Kishora Prabhu was diagnosed with Cancer in the Liver. He went for treatment and had a total of 3 operations. However, the treatments in Brazil did not improve his condition. The cancer spread to his spine. Out of desperation he came to India to seek Ayurvedic treatment in South India. The three week treatment at the clinic was showing improvement to some degree; however his pain in the back was increasing, so he left the
clinic and came to Mayapur Dham.

There is still a chance that Prabhu can be cured. However, it will need your help.

Krishna Kishora Prabhu has left for Mumbai this morning to be admitted to the Bhaktivedanta Hospital Cancer institute (http://www.cancertreatmenthospital.in/).

The Bhaktivedanta hospital will work closely with the Tata memorial Hospital, which is one of the best cancer recerch Hospitals in the world, to try to treat and hopefully cure Prabhu (http://tmc.gov.in/misc/aboutus.htm).
